HOWRAH DIVISION ACHIEVES KEY TRACK MAINTENANCE MILESTONE

As part of its continued commitment to enhancing passenger safety, structural integrity, operational efficiency, and accessibility, Eastern Railway Howrah Division successfully executed a significant track maintenance operation involving the laying of a Thick Web Switch Expansion Joint (TWS SEJ) on UP Line No. 2 within the station limits of Talit station on 16th June 2025.The TWS SEJ is specifically designed with a thick web for improved performance and durability. This vital track improvement work enhances the flexibility, particularly in areas with high thermal variation and dynamic loads.

A traffic block was granted from 01:50 hrs to 04:50 hrs to facilitate the operation. The work was completed well within the scheduled window, allowing for the timely cancellation of the block and restoration of traffic movement.

As part of the work, a total of 11 numbers standard sleepers specially designed for Thick web SEJ were laid (comprising one complete set), a new TWS SEJ was installed, and two rails?each measuring 6.70 meters in length?were replaced to maintain structural integrity and ensure smooth passage of trains. The task was efficiently executed by deploying two sets of skilled blacksmiths, supported by a team of 20 labourers. The dedicated workforce demonstrated commendable coordination and technical precision to complete the job within the allotted time frame.

These proactive maintenance efforts reinforce Eastern Railways commitment to safe and seamless train operations. The newly installed TWS SEJ not only enhances railway safety by replacing the old one, but also contributes to improved operational efficiency and increasing line capacity. The successful completion of this project stands as a testament to Eastern Railway?s ongoing commitment to modernization and safety enhancements across its network.
