NEW DRM BUILDING AT HOWRAH -- A MODERN LAND MARK FOR EASTERN RAILWAY

Eastern Railway achieved a major infrastructural milestone with the inauguration of the newly constructed Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) building at Howrah, located adjacent to the Howrah Railway Museum. The new building was inaugurated by Milind Deouskar, General Manager, Eastern Railway, and Seema Deouskar, President, Eastern Railway Womens Welfare Organisation (ERWWO), along with Sanjeev Kumar, DRM Howrah, and Reena Jayswal, President, ERWWO Howrah.

The inaugural ceremony was attended by S. P. Singh, Additional General Manager & Principal Heads of Departments (PHODs), Senior officers, and other officials of Eastern Railway, who witnessed this significant step towards modernizing railway administration in the division.

The new DRM building is a state-of-the-art, technologically advanced facility, purpose-built to meet the dynamic demands of contemporary Railway operations. It has been designed with an employee-centric approach , providing spacious and efficient work areas to enhance productivity and ease of functioning.

One of the key highlights of the new building is its advanced security infrastructure. It is equipped with biometric and face recognition-based access control systems to prevent unauthorized entry, ensuring a highly secure work environment. The facility also features 360-degree HD CCTV surveillance for real-time monitoring and round-the-clock security, supported by a fully guarded security system operational 24/7 . In addition, the building has been constructed with a strong focus on structural safety, adhering to modern safety standards to ensure the well-being of all occupants.

This modern building replaces the old DRM office, a heritage structure built in the late 19th century during the British colonial era. The old building became part of the Eastern Railway zone in 1952, following the nationalisation of Indian Railways, and served as a central hub of railway administration for several decades.

The inauguration of the new DRM building marks a seamless transition from the rich legacy of the past to a future-ready, technology-driven administrative setup. It stands as a symbol of Eastern Railways commitment to infrastructural advancement, employee welfare, and operational excellence, aligning with Indian Railways broader vision of modernization and sustainable development.
