Central Railway carries over 1373 million passengers in FY-2025-26

Mumbai Suburban trains carried over 127 million passengers in January-2026

Central Railway has achieved remarkable growth in passenger transportation during Financial Year(FY) 2025-26 (upto January-2026) registering a steady increase in both suburban and non-suburban segments.

Central Railway has carried a total of 1373.39 million passengers during the Financial year(FY) 2025-26 marking an increase of 1.86 % over 1348.33 million passengers carried during the corresponding period last year.

This includes

1201.93 million passengers travelling in suburban trains in FY2025-26 against 1187.92 million passengers last year and

171.46 million passengers travelling by Mail/Express/Passenger and other non-suburban trains in FY 2025-26 as against 160.41 million passengers last year.

During the month of January-2026, Central Railway carried 146.29 million passengers ( including 129.08 million suburban and 17.20 million non-suburban).

The 129.08 million suburban passengers include 127.12 million passengers on Mumbai Suburban and 1.96 million passengers on Pune Suburban lines

Introduction of additional services on the Nerul/Belapur-Uran section and commissioning of two new stations viz. Targhar & Gavan stations on the route has contributed to the rise in suburban patronage.

Further, introduction of AC services on the Harbour line has received a tremendous response carrying more than 6 lakh passengers within a short span of 16 days, reflecting strong commuter preference for enhanced comfort and efficiency.

At present, Central Railway operates 1820 suburban services, including 94 AC local services, catering to the ever-growing travel demand in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
