NFR Commissions 132 kV Transmission Line for Smoother & Capacitive Electric Train Operations in Araria–Thakurganj Section

Northeast Frontier Railway has achieved another significant milestone in strengthening the existing railway electrification infrastructure with the successful commissioning of a 132 kV transmission line from Araria Grid Sub-Station (GSS) to Araria Traction Sub-Station (TSS) under the Katihar Division. The newly commissioned transmission line comprises 5.9 km of overhead line and was commissioned on 17th December 2025.The commissioning of this critical traction power supply infrastructure will substantially enhance power availability and operational reliability, enabling smooth and capacity-augmented electric train operations. It will adequately cater to present requirements as well as future traffic growth on the Katihar?Jogbani section and the newly constructed Araria?Thakurganj line, thereby facilitating energy efficient, safe and sustained operation of electric train services in this part of North Bihar. The Principal Chief Electrical Engineer (PCEE) of NFR had earlier inspected & commissioned the Araria and Araria Court?Bibiganj section under the Katihar Division on 30th October, 2025 covering a total of 67.186 Route Kilometres (RKM) and 82.698 Track Kilometres (TKM), marking a crucial milestone towards electrification process in the section. The commissioning of the 132 kV transmission line and successful charging of OHE underlines NFR sustained efforts towards enhance power reliability and infrastructure robustness for electric traction. This development also complements the recently completed electrification works in adjoining sections, paving the way for seamless electric train operations and improved connectivity in the region. It also aligns with Indian Railway mission of achieving Net Zero Carbon Emissions by 2030, reaffirming NFR?s commitment towards modern, energy-efficient and eco-friendly rail transport.
