Northeast Frontier Railway Enhances Passenger Convenience with 42 Additional Train Stoppages in Assam and West Bengal during 2025

Northeast Frontier Railway has taken a significant step towards improving passenger convenience and regional connectivity by providing additional stoppages to several important trains at selected stations across Assam and West Bengal during the year 2025. These additional halts have been introduced after assessing passenger demand and operational feasibility, with the objective of ensuring better accessibility to rail services for people residing in semi-urban and rural areas. The initiative reflects NFR continued commitment to making rail travel more inclusive, convenient and passenger-friendly.

During 2025, Northeast Frontier Railway has provided 32 additional stoppages to 23 important passenger trains across Assam, significantly improving rail accessibility in the state. These new halts have been introduced at key stations such as Diphu, Goalpara Town, Kokrajhar, New Haflong benefiting a large number of daily commuters as well as long-distance passengers from interior and semi-urban areas. Similarly, in West Bengal 10 additional stoppages have been provided to 8 passenger trains, including important locations such as Kumedpur, Old Malda, Kanki strengthening connectivity across North Bengal. Prominent trains that have received these additional halts include the Brahmaputra Mail, Kamrup Express, North East Express, Kanchanjungha Express, Avadh Assam Express, Kanchan Kanya Express enabling passengers from smaller towns and suburban regions of both Assam and West Bengal to directly access long-distance rail services without depending on major junctions.

The additional stoppages have brought multiple benefits for the people of Assam and West Bengal. Passengers from smaller towns and surrounding areas now enjoy improved accessibility to key destinations, leading to savings in travel time and cost. The initiative has also supported students, working professionals, traders and patients by providing more convenient options for travel related to education, employment, business and medical needs. Furthermore, enhanced rail connectivity has contributed to boosting local economic activity and tourism while helping to reduce congestion at major stations, resulting in smoother passenger movement and improved operational efficiency.
