OpenAI Launches GPT-5.2 After Internal “Code Red” Amid Google Competition

OpenAI has introduced GPT-5.2, its newest generation of AI models for ChatGPT, available in three variants: Instant, Thinking, and Pro. The release arrives shortly after CEO Sam Altman reportedly issued a ?code red? internally, urging rapid improvements to counter rising pressure from Google?s Gemini 3.

GPT-5.2 brings major upgrades, including a 400,000-token context window, improved coding ability, stronger multi-step reasoning, and a knowledge cutoff of August 2025. OpenAI says the new model surpasses Gemini 3 Pro on several benchmarks and reduces hallucinations by 38% compared to GPT-5.1.

The rollout begins today for paid subscribers, with API access available to developers. Pricing has increased by 40% compared with the previous generation.
