NFR Accelerates Further towards its 100% Electrification Target

PCEE of NFR Inspects Several Newly Electrified Sections of the Zone

In a significant stride toward achieving 100% electrification, Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) continues to strengthen its commitment towards sustainable and efficient rail operations. As part of this ongoing effort, the Principal Chief Electrical Engineer (PCEE) of NFR,Sandeep Kumar recently conducted statutory inspections of three newly electrified sections across the zone during June 2025. These inspections are critical milestones required to obtain the necessary sanction for introducing commercial train services using 25 kV AC electric traction, thereby ensuring operational readiness and safety.

The first of these inspections was carried out on 9th June, 2025, on the newly electrified Chaparmukh?Hojai 2nd line section, covering 46 Track Kilometres (TKM) under the Lumding Division of NFR. This was followed by an inspection of the Azara?Dudhnoi section under Rangiya Division of the zone on 10th June 2025, which includes 99.32 TKM and 20.44 Route Kilometres (RKM). The final inspection till date was conducted on 16th June across the Duliajan?Tinsukia and Tinsukia?Dibrugarh sections under the Tinsukia Division of NFR, both of which are crucial for enhancing regional connectivity in Upper Assam. These electrified corridors are expected to significantly boost operational efficiency, capacity and reliability across key routes of the zone.

These inspections follow the major progress achieved by NFR during FY 2024-25, where an all time record of 1141 RKM of railway electrification was achieved. As for the current FY 2025-26, NFR has planned electrification of approximately 640 RKM across various sections of its zone. The recent inspections mark yet another step forward in NFR?s larger vision of reducing dependence on diesel traction, lowering carbon emissions and modernizing railway infrastructure in the NE region. With the commissioning of these sections, NFR is poised to further improve train speeds, reduce travel time and deliver more eco-friendly rail services to the people of the region.
