NFR Women Welfare Organisation Observes World Environment Day 2025 in Collaboration with FICCI FLO Northeast

The N.F. Railway Women Welfare Organisation, on the occasion of World Environment Day 2025, (NFRWWO), in collaboration with FICCI FLO Northeast, organized an environmental awareness programme on 5th June 2025, at its Sirisha Rail Udyan located at Maligaon, Guwahati. The plantation drive was led by Shalini Shrivastava, President of NFRWWO, alongwith other office bearers, lending a strong message of leadership and commitment to the cause. Focusing on the theme Ending Global Plastic Pollution, the initiative included plantation activities sending awareness messages, reflecting NFR WWOs continued commitment towards environmental conservation and sustainable development.

Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) is actively advancing a comprehensive set of green initiatives to promote environmental sustainability towards its Go Green Initiative. Major efforts include rapid progress toward 100% electrification by the end of 2025, with over 70% of the rail network already covered, aligning with Indian Railways vision of carbon-neutral transport. To boost renewable energy adoption, NFR is installing solar power systems across stations, offices and workshops. Water conservation is being prioritized through rainwater harvesting, restoration of water bodies, and installation of Automatic Coach Washing Plants and Quick Watering Plants at key locations to reduce water wastage. In the area of waste management, NFR is promoting zero-waste stations by implementing waste segregation, composting, banning single-use plastics and deploying incinerators and bio-toilets across its network. Further, afforestation and green area development projects are being undertaken extensively. Through these initiatives, NFR is paving the way for a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable railway ecosystem.

NFR remains steadfast in its commitment towards protecting the environment and fostering a culture of sustainability across its operations. By combining infrastructural upgrades with awareness initiatives like those led by NFR WWO and FICCI FLO, the zone continues to lead by example in aligning railway growth with environmental responsibility.
